Cutlery manufacture has existed here since the 16th century; in and around Nogent. The industry has widened its production to include many specialities, including, cutlery, scissor manufacture and surgical instruments.
Basket making began in 1670 and today there are still about 50 basket makers active. Willow is still grown and produced here and there are workshops where one can learn this art.
The "Circuit des Fonts d'Art" (Artistic Cast Iron Tour) invites you to discover the history of this art at several locations such as Dommartin-le-Franc with its 1834 smelting furnace and Vassy, whose origins as a metal working site go back to the Middle Ages.
The Moulin de la Fleuristerie is the last place in France producing pistils and petals. Visit, discover the area, the art and the unique manufacturing process.
Beverages produced in the Haute-Marne include Champagne production in Argentolles - Rizaucourt, regional wines such as le Coiffy and Montsaugeon, "Choue" beer and the eau de vie Decorse in Millières. Taste local produce such as the Burgundy Truffle, known as the grey truffle, foie gras, snails, red-legged crayfish and the Langres cheese.
With a forest of some 245,000 hectares, a veritable paradise for birds and animals, the Haute-Marne lists a significant population of game animals: deer, wild boar, stags, foxes and hares amongst many others.
At periods of migration, in Autumn, tens of thousands of cranes pass by the Lac du Der. Discover this environment at La Maison de l'Oiseau et du Poisson (The Bird and Fish Centre), and at the Musée du Pays du Der (the Museum of the Der).
The Haute-Marne is lucky to have some 40 different varieties of orchids.

Outdoor rock climbing is to be found at Bourmont, Viéville and Cohons, and canoe-kayak is possible on the river Marne. Five flying clubs cater to different disciplines including piloting, microlite and hang-gliding.
The Lac du Der has become a major centre for "blue" and "green" tourisme in the north of the Haute-Marne. Here you can enjoy the majority of water sports, such as, swimming, sailing, water-skiing, catamaran, wind-surfing, jet skiing, surf-skiing, canoe-kayak, pleasure craft.
Around the fortified town of Langres, 4 artificial lakes have been created; the Haute-Marne is crossed from north to south by the Marne-Soâne Canal "between Champagne and Burgundy" where the moorings and picnic places allow a break of "discovery".
Re-energise yourself at Bourbonne-les-Bains, The hot spa resort, where health giving waters bubble up. Illnesses such as rheumatism, fractures and respiratory problems are treated or simply offer yourself a refreshing break not far from the Casino.
