Less than 2 hours from Paris and Brussels, the French Ardennes is the perfect place to visit, whether for unwinding and relaxing or for exploring and adventure! Each time, visitors will be surprised. This lesser known corner of France is a surprising blend of lush nature, a remarkable heritage and fascinating history : Charleville-Mézières with its brilliant place Ducale and its world puppet festival, the fortified castle of Sedan, the magnificent meanders of the Meuse and Semoy rivers. In addition, the invigorating savour of cooking down-to-earth cooking such as “cacasse à cul nu” (potato fricassee) and “salade au lard” (bacon salad). And above all, the characteristic hospitality of the Ardennais people will make you want to return, time and time again.
"The French Ardennes, a great place to visit !” says Richard, a French holidaymaker, 2008
The most recent cycle path is also one of the finest in France, no less! The Trans-French Ardennes cycle path runs 50 miles from Charleville to Givet, giving walkers and cyclists the opportunity to see the other side of the Meuse valley. There are refreshment points available on the trail, so walkers can have something to eat or drink while admiring the marvellous countryside on each bank of the river. So it is perfectly possible to feast your eyes and soul at the same time!
