A treasure on your doorstep: the Cerin palaeontological site, a 5-minute walk away, is home to Europe’s first palaeoecological museum and a world-renowned fossil quarry (145 million years ago, this was a tropical lagoon). The Sentier des Carriers trail starts at the museum and climbs up to the quarry, offering superb views; nearby are the Cerin peat bog and the Brive waterfalls. Outdoor activities: walks for all abilities starting from the gîte (forests, ridges, panoramic views), cycling and mountain-biking routes, and swimming in rivers and lakes in summer – ideal for children. Local specialities: Bugey AOC wines, with cellars and vineyards open for tours and tastings, as well as local markets and producers (cheeses, charcuterie, Bresse poultry). More broadly, the Bugey region offers lakes, waterfalls, charming villages and a rich heritage to explore at your own pace. ## Access map The gîte is situated in Cerin, a hamlet in the commune of Marchamp (01), in the Bugey region. It is easily accessible from Lyon, Geneva or Bourg-en-Bresse (around 1 hour). Free parking is available in front of the gîte. Once on the main road through Cerin, look out for Chemin du Moulin Perret on your left. Turn onto it, take the first right, then another right, and follow the road uphill, which leads straight to the gîte. Signs will guide you once you’re there — you can’t go wrong.
