Veules-les-Roses: our house is located in the heart of this charming village on the banks of the Veules, France's smallest river. The village centre is home to several shops (bakery, grocery shop, butcher's, art and decoration galleries, etc.) and restaurants. You can take a walk along the path that runs alongside the mills, thatched cottages and watercress beds. The market in Veules is held on Wednesday mornings. Saint-Valéry-en-Caux: a 5-minute drive from our rental car. Discover the modern town centre, with its shops, stroll along the quays and perhaps buy some fish from the fishermen on their return. Cross the channel and you'll see the half-timbered Maison Henri IV. Enter the narrow streets of the St Léger district, with its fishermen's houses, as far as the Cloître des Pénitents. You're in old St Valéry. The Côte d'Albâtre: whether you're heading for Fécamp/Etretat (55-minute drive) or Dieppe, Varengeville or Pourville (20 to 30 minutes), you'll always come across the great white chalk cliffs. The GR21 criss-crosses the coast, and there are many walks you can take from our accommodation. Rouen __: La Dame de la Côte is 1 hour from Rouen, the capital of Normandy and nicknamed the "city of a hundred steeples". First, take a look at the façade of Notre-Dame Cathedral (12th-16th centuries), painted by Claude Monet. Enter and discover the superb stained glass windows from the Middle Ages, and the tombs of the Dukes of Normandy Rollon and Richard the Lionheart. The cathedral is topped by the highest spire in France (151 m). Right next to the cathedral, in the archbishop's palace on rue St Romain, is the Jeanne d'Arc Memorial, where you can learn more about her life through 3-D films. Stop off at Dame Cakes, an unusual place to eat a piece of cake and drink an excellent cup of tea. Stroll along the narrow streets lined with more than 2,000 timber-framed houses with colourful facades, the __église St Maclou__...__ If you like unusual places, push on to the __aître St Maclou__, a former cemetery and ossuary for plague victims. Continue along rue Damiette and its antique shops to reach the superb abbey church of St Ouen and its superb stained-glass windows. Then return to the cathedral square and continue along rue du Gros Horloge. This clock dates from the 16th century and has only one hand. It's also a very busy shopping street. You will then come to the Place du Vieux Marché, where Jeanne d___Arc was burnt alive in 1431. Close to the stake stands the 1979 church of Ste Jeanne d__'__Arc, modern in architecture but with 16th-century stained-glass windows from the church of St Vincent, destroyed during the war. _
