About this Holiday rental
In the grounds of the Mas de Mourgues the Tamaris was originally built in the 1960s when the Mas de Mourgues was a working wine producer. Its purpose was to house the itinerant grape pickers at harvest time.
The front door opens direct into the kitchen/living room of the Tamaris, equipped for 5 people with sofa, armchairs, television, dining table and chairs , kitchen cupboards , gas cooker, coffee machine, microwave oven, dishwasher, sink pots, pans , cutlery and place settings for 5.
A door leads from the kitchen area into the corridor, where you will fins a book case and shelving unit. through another door and you are in the first bedroom with double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and corner cupboard. Back in the corridor you can take another door into bedroom two, this time with three single beds, large wardrobe cupboard and chest of drawers. The third door from the corridor leads to the shower room with shower, toilet and washbasin.
The garden of the Mas de Mourgues is surrounded by a very old wall built of pebbles typical of the area. The gate is locked at night and you will have a key. There is parking for four or five cars, a lawn, the swimming pool with terrace and changing room, several tables and chairs for relaxing or dining , a barbecue and a large barn with ping pong table. The garden is used not only by the occupants of the Tamaris but also by John and Lynne, the owners of the property, their children and grandchildren sometimes and also possibly the two occupants of a studio in the grounds.
The Mas de Mourgues is on the main departmental road D6527 but the Tamaris is behind the main building so well shielded from any road noise from that angle; It is bout one Kilometre from the village of Gallician with its bakery, wine cooperative, two cafés and bullring. The Rhone-Sete canal passes though the village and there is a cycle route to Vauvert 4Kilometres away, with its supermarket, banques, doctors and the usual services. In fact, the cycle route is being extended and will now take you as far as the coast at Ler Grau du Roi.
Next to the Mas de Mourgues is a small campsite with 75 pitches where you can enjoy the friendly bar, order a pizza or your bread for breakfast if you wish.
Local attractions include sandy beaches ( about 25Km away) discovering the wildlife of the Camargue with its characteristic black bulls and white horses - its numerous species of birds and wild plants, often unique and protected. In summer local traditions are very important. Every town and village has its "fete votive", with entertainments, sideshows and bull running through the streets
The important Roman cities of Nimes and Arles are half an hour away and the roman Pont du Gard, one of the most visited sites in France, is approximately 45 minutes. You can also take a kayak down the river and stop on the way for a swim.
