Holidays to recharge your batteries in the heart of the Cantal massif
Polminhac is located 5 km from Vic-sur-Cère, 15 km from Aurillac and 25 km from the resort of Lioran. Before setting out to discover them, take the time to explore the 4 short hiking trails starting from the village of Polminhac.
You will be able to appreciate the castles of Clavières, Vixouze and Pesteils, walk along the Cère river, evolve in the forest and enjoy beautiful views of the Cère valley and the Cantal mountains.
In addition to the castles, you can observe listed sites and beautiful private residences: the Manoir de La Cavade, the Manoir des Huttes, the Manoir de Montlogis or even La Chapelle de Las Courtines, on the site of the equestrian centre.
In addition, there is a more modest rural heritage (laundry, fountain, cross, etc.), the diversity of which you can see by following the discovery circuit of the town.
The castle of Pesteils, with its 40 meter keep, overlooks the village and the Cère valley. Inside, the 15th century frescoes, the 17th century painted ceilings, the furnishings and the tapestries evoke the past of this stately home. On the terrace, you will be amazed by the view of the Cantal mountains. The castle can be visited from April to September and comes alive during school holidays.
The House of the Princes of Monaco, the House of Queen Margot, the House of the Baillage, the Church of Saint Pierre, the Parc de la source. If you are a heritage lover, take the direction of Vic-sur-Cère. Stroll through the historic center or book a guided tour at the tourist office.
In Aurillac, you can visit the Museum of Art and Archeology and/or the Museum of Volcanoes and take a walk in the historic pedestrian centre. Look up to not miss any of the architectural details that punctuate the facades. If you come at the end of August, you can attend the Street Theater Festival.
In Cantal, built heritage rubs shoulders with intangible heritage. The territory is full of local products: cheese(s) (Cantal, Salers, Bleu d'Auvergne, etc.), meat, charcuterie, etc. To be tasted directly from producers, in markets or in restaurants!
Among the outdoor activities, equestrian trails are particularly developed in the Carladès. The mountain biking and hiking routes allow you to immerse yourself in a preserved natural environment.
The territory of Carladès is crossed by great hiking routes: the GR® 400, the GR® 465 and the Via Arverna. Routes to be reserved for seasoned walkers in search of roaming.
Walking along the hiking trails, you will be amazed by the beauty of the volcanic landscapes of the Cantal massif. From Puy Mary, Grand site de France® to the slopes of Lioran and Plomb du Cantal, a wonderful playground awaits you.
The Plomb du Cantal, 1,855 meters, is the highest point of the Cantal mountains. You can reach its summit by cable car from the Lioran resort or on foot via a hiking trail. Once there, why not take advantage of the Lioran's infrastructure? In all seasons, the resort offers outdoor activities: skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, tree climbing, summer tobogganing, paragliding...
In winter, you can go cross-country skiing on the Pailherols plateau. With its 4 ski slopes on pastoral paths, the Espace Nordique de Pailherols is a quiet family area.
Le Puy Mary, Grand site de France®, is easily accessible. From the Col du Pas de Peyrol, all you have to do is take the trail to get to its summit at 1,783 meters. You will find an orientation table and a magnificent panorama of the surrounding valleys. At the foot of the trail, at the Maison de Site, you can learn about the local flora and fauna and outdoor activities.
The Puy Griou, the most pointed and rocky summit of the Cantal massif, is also the most difficult to access. Its ascent is rather technical, the last 15 meters are done with the help of the hands. Several accesses are possible by hiking: from the hamlet of Chazes (2h45 – PR Yellow), from the Col de Font de Cère (4h – PR Green) and from Saint Jacques des Blats (6h – PR Green).
Among the waterfalls, valleys, forests, large natural spaces that you can discover around your vacation rental, the Pas de Cère site is worth a stop.
The Pas de Cère is part of the Sensitive Natural Areas of Cantal. Impressive gorges, a shady path, a refreshing stroll along the water's edge, this is what awaits you!
Make a stop at the Cascade de la Roucolle. It is reached by a steep path which extends from the Pas de Cère (3 km there and back) or directly from the car park located between Thiézac and Vic sur Cère.
If you like waterfalls, you won't be disappointed by the Faillitoux waterfall in Thiézac. One of the most impressive in Cantal with its jet of water falling over 40 meters!
