Holidays at the crossroads between Auvergne and Occitanie
Raulhac, your holiday resort, is located in the south in Cantal, at the gates of Aveyron. The remarkable heritage of Raulhac, which earned it its classification as a Small City of Character®, testifies to the rich historical past of Carladès. You will be charmed by its picturesque alleys and its typical stone houses.Registered on the road of the Castles of Auvergne, the castle of Messilhac, in Raulhac is a unique testimony of the French Renaissance in Cantal. You will appreciate both its authentic architecture and its preserved natural setting.
From its terrace, the panorama over the Goul valley is superb.
Around Raulhac, the beauty of the landscapes rivals the richness of the built heritage. You will be able to observe, from the outside, beautiful private residences: the castle of Mas de Raulhac, the castle of Cropières, that of Courbelimagne or the manor of Valduchez.
The Mule rock hike, a 10 km loop that runs along a path from Raulhac, will offer you beautiful views of the Cantal mountains and the Goul valley.
The Rocher de Ronesque is a natural curiosity, resulting from the volcanic past of Cantal. This remarkable lava flow, forming a plateau dominating the landscape, allows you to contemplate a superb view of the Aveyronnais Carladès and Aubrac. Did you know ? Seen from the sky, the rock has the shape of a heart.
After your stop at Rocher de Ronesque, head towards Vic-sur-Cère.
In the town, the so-called House of the Princes of Monaco recalls the historical and political link between Carladès and the Principality of Monaco. The spring and the kiosk of the drinkers evoke the thermal past of the city.
If you go to Vic-sur-Cère on a Tuesday or Friday morning, stop at the local farmers' market. Cheeses, charcuterie, fario trout, but also pounti and bourriols: you can taste it all! Not forgetting the famous Tarte à la Tome du Carladès, celebrated every year in Raulhac on the first Sunday of October.
Another remarkable site, the Faillitoux waterfall is nestled on the heights of Thiézac. Located at 1,100 meters above sea level, it is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Cantal, characterized by its basalt organs.
Don't miss the charming hamlet of Niervèze either. Perched on the heights of Thiézac, you will appreciate the authenticity of the site (renovated bread oven, mill, houses with thatched roofs, etc.) as much as the splendid view of Puy Griou, the emblem of Carladès.
To recognize the Puy Griou nothing could be simpler: it is the most pointed and the mostrocky of the Cantal mountains. Several hiking trails allow you to reach its summit, which culminates at 1,690 meters. Here again a spectacular panorama awaits you.
To observe the Puy Griou and the Plomb du Cantal, go to the summit of the Elancèze at 1,571 meters above sea level. It is located between the valleys of the Jordanne to the north and the Cère to the south.
If you are a hiker passionate about nature and wide open spaces, mountain biking or cycling, between the Cantal mountains, the Pas de Cère and the Truyère gorges, you will have a wonderful “playground”.
The Carladès is crossed by 3 long-distance hiking trails: the GR® 400 (tour of the Monts du Cantal), the GR®465 (from Murat to Conques, passing through the Plomb du Cantal, Pailherols and Raulhac) and the Via Arverna (a variant of the road to Santiago de Compostela, linking Clermont-Ferrand to Cahors).
If you are on a family vacation, you can explore easier hiking trails. Short routes, without great difficulty offering magnificent views of the Cantal volcano: it's tempting, isn't it?
23 km from your vacation rental, you can discover one of the most beautiful natural sites in Aveyron: the Laussac peninsula. Located on the steep and wooded banks of Lake Sarrans, this small piece of land advancing on the water is a unique place.
The site is conducive to outdoor activities: fishing, mountain biking, water sports and hiking. Two marked trails “La Presqu'île de Laussac” and “Le Sentier de Jou” will allow you to appreciate the beauty of the site.
During the summer period, at the tip of the peninsula, you can go to the beach, swimming is supervised there. To enjoy the enchanting calm of this island of greenery, why not have a picnic in one of the designated areas? It is the assurance of recharging your batteries and taking a breath of fresh air!

Great view from balcony. Well equipped house.
Not clear that the house was not actually in the village. Too far to walk for early morning croissants.
Very pleasant stay in a lovely area.
