Which château should you visit this winter? Head for Amboise, Azay-le-Rideau, Chenonceau, Chinon, Langeais, Loches and Villandry! From 30 November 2024 to 5 January 2025, these seven jewels of the Loire will be decked out in the colours of the festive season, offering enchanting tours and a range of events as part of "Christmas in the land of castles".

For those wishing to explore more than one of these treasures, Christmas passes are available to purchase online or at the region's Tourist Offices. Imagine a huge fir tree decorated with thousands of ornaments, sugar sculptures surrounded by colourful sweets, a myriad of candles playing with shadows, a huge Provençal nativity scene or sumptuous tables worthy of a fairytale. Each château is transformed into a unique universe from late November to early January, inviting visitors to enjoy a collection of unforgettable experiences. Once you get started, it's hard not to want to visit each castle!
These tours are open every day, even outside school holidays, and some châteaux extend the magic until 8pm with evening visits:

Here's an overview of the themes covered at each château:
Château royal d'Amboise: "Christmas, childhood dreams: in the kingdom of toys". Discover the emblematic toys of princes and princesses through the ages, in a festive atmosphere where Louis XI meets Spiderman and Leonardo da Vinci tries his hand at construction games. It's a joyous celebration under Christmas trees and traditional decorations.
Château d'Azay-le-Rideau: "Christmas Delights". Gingerbread is this year's star attraction, with a variety of gourmet and artistic creations. The rooms of the château are beautifully decorated with gingerbread houses and sumptuous tables that will revive the convivial spirit of the festive season of yesteryear.
Château de Chenonceau: "Chenonceau, a porcelain Christmas". In homage to Catherine de Médicis, the château and Bernardaud are collaborating to offer a delicate Christmas, where fine porcelain invites itself to the table, surrounded by the sublime floral settings that embellish the galleries and salons.
Chinon Royal Fortress: "Christmas Myths and Legends: Christmas for Queens". To mark the 900th anniversary of the birth of Eleanor of Aquitaine, the fortress pays tribute to women with majestic floral arrangements and decorations dedicated to Eleanor and Marie d'Anjou.
Château de Langeais: "A case of lights". This medieval castle lights up under thousands of candles, lanterns and garlands, plunging visitors into a magical world where heritage and the spirit of the festive season come together.
Cité royale de Loches: "Les contes de la Cité royale - Hansel et Gretel". Experience an immersion in the Grimm brothers' famous tale through enchanting settings and a sweet forest that will come to life in the royal dwelling.
Château and Gardens of Villandry: "At Christmas, nature invites itself to the château". Winter takes hold in the château's drawing rooms and halls, where fir trees and forest animals rub shoulders with open fires and tables set for the festivities at the end of the year.
