It's impossible to talk about the férias without starting with Bayonne, the festive capital of the Basque Country. For five days, the town dons its ceremonial costume: everyone in white, with a red scarf and sash. The kick-off is given from the balcony of the town hall, where the crowds gather impatiently to watch the keys to the city fall.
In the lively alleyways, bandas rock the cobblestones, popular dances bring generations together, stalls sell Bayonne ham, pintxos and Basque wine, and people dance the night away. Here, fervour is a way of life.

The Plumaçon bullring comes alive to the rhythm of the bullfighting shows, brass bands echo through the streets and the bodegas overflow with laughter and song.
