Find your bed and breakfast in the PACA region and sample Mediterranean culinary specialities in Marseille in the Bouches-du-Rhône and Nice in the Alpes-Maritimes . While you're on holiday in the PACA region, take the opportunity to enjoy yourself in the Hautes-Alpes, on the beaches of the Var and explore the sumptuous scenery of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (PACA) region is distinguished on the one hand by its coastline dotted with beautiful seaside resorts. It is also characterised by its mountain ranges, which are attractive all year round. The sunny ski resorts are a delight for winter sports enthusiasts, while the mountainous terrain appeals to nature lovers.
The Bouches-du-Rhône département is home to the capital of the PACA region, Marseille, which is notably nicknamed the Phocaean city. Near its historic heart, you can visit the famous Vieux-Port, the Canebière and take the little train to Notre-Dame de la Garde. Its calanques have everything you need to marvel, but it would be a mistake to stay only in this football-mad town. A sightseeing stopover in Arles to discover its ancient remains and a diversion to the magnificent village of Les Baux de Provence will leave you with some fantastic memories.
To the north of the Bouches-du-Rhône lies the Vaucluse, which fascinates with the diversity of its landscapes. You're bound to want to get away from it all when you visit Mont Ventoux or go hiking in Lubéron. You'll enjoy sampling its culinary specialities, including the melon de Cavaillon and the daube avignonnaise. It has a rich historical heritage, but if there was only one monument to visit during your holiday, it would be the Palais des Papes, which contains countless riches.
The Var, meanwhile, is perfectly epitomised by its seaside resorts such as La Seyne-sur-Mer, Bandol, Saint-Tropez and Sainte-Maxime. They are popular with water sports enthusiasts, but also with party-goers who enjoy themselves during the summer season. Your culinary experiences are sure to be a success! Tasty local produce is legion: brousse du var, anchoïade, Solliès figs and tarte tropézienne.
Some of the most grandiose natural sites in the PACA region are to be found in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. The Gorges du Verdon (Verdon) and Lac de Sainte-Croix are a delight for hikers and rock-climbers alike. The department is also notable for its generous gastronomy, as evidenced by the succulent croquants du Queyras, the tarte du Champsaur and all the Lavender-flavoured recipes.
The Hautes-Alpes, meanwhile, offers a playground for paragliding and hang-gliding enthusiasts, particularly around Embrun. But this region attracts tourists above all because of its marvellous ski resorts, such as Les Orres and Vars, where you can find a bed and breakfast in the PACA region. As a family, it's also great fun to share a few laughs at Water World in Savines-Le-Lac or Monty Express Luge in Montgenèvre.
In the south-east of the region, the Alpes-Maritimes boasts a majestic coastline and a mountainous region. Its contrasting scenery arouses the curiosity of travellers, who flock to the snowy slopes of Robion as well as the fine sandy beaches of Cannes, Nice and Antibes. The Alpes-Maritimes also boasts a refined gastronomy that you wouldn't want to miss.
