Lac de Nantua: between cliffs and deep waters

Nested in the heart of the Jura Massif, Lake Nantua is one of the department's most emblematic lakes. Surrounded by high cliffs, it offers a breathtaking panorama. Ideal for swimming in summer, water sports or pedal-boating. The lake is also popular with anglers for its abundance of fish. Numerous hiking trails leave from the shore to explore the surrounding area.

Sylans lake: a natural heritage memory

Located near the village of Nantua, Lac de Sylans stands out for its unique history. Once exploited for its natural ice houses, it is a reminder of the days when ice was extracted for export throughout Europe. Today, the site is a haven of peace, ideal for walks. A greenway runs alongside the lake, making it an easy family outing on foot or by bike.

Lac Genin: a little Canada in the Ain

Nicknamed the "little Canada of Haut-Bugey", Lac Genin is perched at an altitude of 850 metres, surrounded by fir forests. Classified as a "protected natural site", it offers a peaceful and wild atmosphere. In summer, you can swim, paddle, fish or hike here. In winter, the lake is transformed into a natural ice rink when temperatures drop, for a unique experience. It's a popular destination for lovers of nature and tranquillity.

Located on the River Ain, between Poncin and Hautecourt-Romanèche, Île Chambod is a family destination par excellence. The island offers a leisure centre with a supervised beach in summer, pedalo hire, kayaking, children's play areas and shaded areas.
