Its culinary delights won't let you get out of your restaurant chair, and its activities and monuments will create indelible memories! Look for your B&B in the Ain among the many destinations offered by Clévacances.
The Ain is not particularly renowned for its cuisine, yet this département benefits from a high-quality terroir, showcased by its top chefs. When you visit a well-known restaurant, try a carp in white wine or wrapped in foil - you'll love its tender flesh and all the aromas it releases! Another exquisite culinary speciality is the authentic pôchouse, a matelote of freshwater fish. The locals are also in the habit of sampling some of the region's cheeses before dessert. Bleu de Bresse, Comté de l'Ain, ramequin du Bugey there's a plethora of choice for lovers of dairy products! Charcuterie also contributes to the convivial atmosphere in Bresse and Dombiste. They love cooking sausages and jésus, for example, as well as diot, a fine-fleshed sausage that makes an ideal accompaniment to polenta. You're sure to be satisfied after discovering some of these local products. But it would be a great pity to miss out on a number of sweet treats such as the galette bressane and bugne. Finally, it's hard to resist corniotte, a triangular cheese turnover often eaten as a snack.
The Monastère Royal de Brou features in all the good tourist guides devoted to the Ain, and it's totally justified! This flamboyant Gothic religious complex is home to the Bourg-en-Bresse municipal museum, where you can discover paintings dating back to the 16th century.
The medieval town of Pérouges is the other main tourist attraction in the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Listed as one of France's most beautiful villages, it boasts such a rich historical heritage that it's hard to tour it all in just one day! If you're a history buff, you'll want to visit Fort L'Ecluse in Léaz and Château de Fléchères in Fareins. Museums are often shunned by families who fear their children will be bored. The Miniature Train Museum in Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne, on the other hand, is likely to fill them with wonder! There are some superb reproductions, including the ochre quarries in the Vaucluse village of Roussillon and a number of iconic sites in Lyon, including the Parc de la Tête d' Or and the Stade de Gerland. At Villars-les-Dombes, the youngest visitors will have their eyes on the Andean Condor and Edwards' Pheasant. These are just some of the 600 species that inhabit the 35-hectare Bird Park. Sports enthusiasts are not left out! They can stretch their legs by going pedal-boating on Lake Nantua, or discovering the joys of water-skiing!
When you choose your bed and breakfast in Ain in Bourg-en-Bresse, you'll enjoy a relaxing environment, far from the hustle and bustle of the big tourist towns. Don't forget to visit the Church of Notre-Dame during a stroll through the historic centre, where you'll appreciate its meticulous architecture. Divonne-les-Bains has other attractions to tempt you, such as its thermal baths and Forest Land, a leisure park with tree climbing courses. Finally, a diversion to Oyonnax is also worthwhile if you're a rugby fan!
