The Vendée terroir promises some great discoveries on the culinary front. Particularly if you're a fan of fish and, more generally, seafood, as the coastline obliges! For example, it's hard to resist a Palette de Saint-Jacques or a Minestrone de Légumes aux Cocos Blancs and its Filet de Dorade in a renowned establishment near the beach. Other culinary specialities on offer as main courses include Parmentier de canard (duck parmentier), Lançons en friture (fried sand eels) and Bar en croûte de sel (sea bass in a salt crust). Got an insatiable appetite? Well, the restaurant owners at La Tranche-sur-Mer don't neglect the dessert menu. Give in to the temptation of a refined sweet such as a white chocolate "cœur coulant" with green pepper ganache, or a real Vendée brioche to round off your meal with a bang.
La Tranche-sur-Mer's coastline is just as suited to those who enjoy lazing around as it is to water sports enthusiasts. Take a leaf out of the book of the people of La Tranche-sur-Mer, who frequent the Plage Centrale and the Plage des Génerelles, popular with families with children, in the summer months. Would you prefer to relax in a wilder setting? Head for Plage de la Terrière, the most northerly of all the beaches. It is bordered by beautiful dunes and is supervised during the summer season. If you're looking for a thrill, try your hand at the Banana Rocket: giggles guaranteed! It's a giant banana that tows several people across the water. Surfing, jet-skiing, kayaking and pedal-boating are other activities to keep you busy on the clear waters of the Vendée. There's no need to don a mask and snorkel to discover the flora and fauna beneath the surface. Visit the 7th continent aquarium in nearby Talmont-Saint-Hilaire (Talmont-Saint-Hilaire). Among the 500 animal species on show to the public, you can admire the zebra shark, the barracuda and the giant guitar ray. You can also see the clown triggerfish, the sea bass and the green anemone. You can also have fun a little further away from the ocean, in the commune of La Jonchère. Here you'll find a go-kart circuit that brings together neophytes and more experienced drivers. It has the advantage of being accessible to PRMs (People with Reduced Mobility) and its managers have even equipped themselves with the two-seater kart, ideal for families wishing to share this exhilarating experience.
The historic heritage of the Pays de la Loire is symbolised in particular by the Château de Terre-Neuve, a Renaissance-style monument that can be visited in Fontenay-le-Comte. This isn't the only tourist attraction we recommend around your holiday rental in La Tranche-sur-Mer.
You'd also be well advised to set course for Saint-Cyr-en-Talmondais and enter the sumptuous floral and tropical Park of the Court d'Aron. The Museum du Coquillage also has some great discoveries in store for you in Les Sables d'Olonne. It houses a private collection of over 45,000 exotic shells from all over the world.
A Blue Flag-rated station, La Tranche sur Mer offers a wide variety of beaches suited to all profiles: families, sports enthusiasts, nature lovers.
The central beach in the heart of the resort is the lively beach par excellence, ideal for swimming with children as it is close to playgrounds, the first-aid post, shops and ice cream parlours. The ocean-facing La Terrière beach is a firm favourite with surfers, making it one of the best surfing spots on the Vendée coast. If you're a keen sailor, you'll love the friendly, dynamic atmosphere of Plage du Phare. More discreet, offering an environment conducive to calm and contemplation, the Sainte Anne beach will be perfect for you.
Outside supervised areas, some beaches such as La Terrière allow dogs on leads at certain times.

<- By boat: Head for the Ile de Ré:
Located near the central beach, the La Tranche-sur-Mer pier takes you to the Ile de Ré in less than an hour and allows you to dock in the port of Saint Martin en Ré, a Unesco heritage site.
- By bike: On the Vélodyssée:
La Tranche-sur-Mer is located on the Vélodyssée, a route of more than 1,200 km along the Atlantic Ocean, from the Basque coast to Brittany. It also has the "Accueil Vélo" label, to the delight of young and old alike.
There are two particularly interesting stages to plan during your holiday: to the Pointe d'Arçay via La Faute-sur- Mer through the dried marshland and lagoon, or to Les Sables d'Olonne through pine trees, creeks and marshes.
- On foot: On signposted footpaths:
A walk in the state-owned forest from Longeville to La Terrière, or a hike in the Belle Henriette lagoon (bird sanctuary) or a loop of the coastal path, nature lovers will be delighted with their stay in La Tranche-sur-Mer.
