Tasty local produce and coastal landscapes ideal for water sports: these two arguments alone are enough to describe the appeal of this destination! Find your holiday rental on the Ile de Ré (and why not a holiday rental with swimming pool on the Ile de Ré?) from among the many Clévacances-labelled offers.

Those who love seafood won't know where to turn! We can only recommend the delicious oysters produced in the region. Their dietary properties are recognised by nutrition professionals, and they go perfectly with certain wines made in Charente-Maritime. There are also two tasty recipes not to be missed. One is mouclade, particularly popular in the Aquitaine-Limousin-Poitou-Charentes region. Secondly, many restaurants feature the famous "embeurrée de chou", a vegetable speciality that will delight the most discerning palates. To accompany your dishes, you'll take great pleasure in discovering the aromas of Cognac and Pineau. Feeling peckish on your way back from the beach or another activity? The galette charentaise will meet all your expectations, and goes perfectly with a cup of coffee at snack time! It's recognisable among 1,000 other sweet treats by its golden appearance, and it remains particularly popular for its soft texture.
Your culinary discoveries won't just remain lasting memories! You'll have the opportunity to buy regional produce by visiting the Rivedoux and Sainte-Martie markets. Merchants offer seasonal fruit and vegetables, as well as the best of the local maritime produce. After a stroll through the stalls, head for the Vauban fortifications and the remains of the prison in the north-east of the island. These are an important part of Charente-Maritime's historical heritage. A visit to the Musée Ernest Cognacq is an equally rewarding way to learn about the island's history and spend some quality time with the family. If your holiday is all about fun, try your hand at a range of water sports! You'll be spoilt for choice between the fun of stand-up paddling, kayaking and surfing sessions on the Grenettes beach in Sainte Marie de Ré. You'll also enjoy the facilities at Gros Jonc beach (Les Portes) with children, which offers supervised activities for boys and girls aged 3 to 12.
Staying in a holiday rental on the Ile de Ré doesn't mean you can't go and explore the region's other riches! For example, you could plan a trip to the island of Oléron and access the Myocastor Park. The gardens of La Boirie and the remains of the château are other sights to discover.
A little over an hour's drive away is the charming seaside resort of La Rochelle. Its rich heritage is perfectly illustrated by its Vieux Port, its Towers and Saint-Louis Cathedral. La Rochelle has many other surprises in store for you, including the Musée du Nouveau Monde and its beautiful aquarium, which welcomes over 800,000 visitors every year. Some people admire the area devoted to Caribbean species, but the vast majority gather in front of the shark aquarium, where fascinating specimens swim.
