Want to spend your holidays in the Grand Est region? Book one of our Clévacances gîtes and come and discover the Meuse department for a stay under the sign of quality, comfort and relaxation! Discover the region's heritage, culture, gastronomy and architecture. The Meuse is also one of the most wooded départements in the region, with 37% of its surface area wooded, or 229,000 hectares! A veritable open-air centre of contemporary art, immerse yourself in the Meuse forest and discover the famous Vent des Forêts trails. Made up mainly of oak and beech trees, the forest offers real moments of relaxation and serenity for families and friends, just a stone's throw from your gîte. And let's not forget the town of Saint-Mihiel, emblematic of the Meuse, with its seven rocks known as the Dames de Meuse, with a base made of an enormous layer of limestone that gives them an extremely solid foundation. Covering an area of 11 km², you can also visit Lac de Madine, an artificial lake with a host of outdoor leisure facilities, including a boules pitch, mini-train, mini-golf, harbour, beach, harbour brasserie and beach bar. The view is even better from the famous historic hill of Mont Sec. And if you want to take in the sights, you can also visit Commercy Castle, once the capital of a sovereign principality that fell to Charles-Henri (Count of Vaudémont, legitimate son of Duke Charles IV of Lorraine). The château has been listed as a French Historic Monument since 1960! All year round, come and enjoy the Meuse, its gastronomy, its culture, its heritage and its varied activities from one of our Clévacances gîtes!
For your holidays in France, succumb to the charm of the region, and set off to discover the Grand Est from your rental! For the curious, you'll have the chance to retrace the history of the Verdun battlefields and devote a whole day to visiting the town of Verdun. If you're looking for a bit of height, head for the Sommedieue aerodrome, where you can soar wherever you please. Take advantage of the opportunity to fly over Lac de Madine with your personalised flights! The Meuse department has an abundance of forests and nature, so you can go hiking or cycling when the weather's fine! You can also go rock-climbing just outside the town of Saint-Mihiel before returning to your nearby gîte for a rest. The rock named after the Dames de Meuse, located on a cliff, offers a wide range of routes for climbing wherever you like. Come and taste Commercy's home-made madeleines, these soft little pure butter madeleines are loved by all! Speaking of tasting, come and try the Bar-Le-Duc goose quill seeded redcurrant jam. Amber or ruby in colour, this sweet caviar is the result of the skill and patience of the women who remove the seeds! Have you heard of Verdun sweets? These little sweets flavoured with almonds, hazelnuts, chocolate and sugar are sure to tantalise your taste buds. You can also enjoy a sweet Lorraine Mirabelle plum tart with your family or friends around a table in your Clévacances gîte. There's no better way to discover Lorraine's must-try dish!
