COTTAGE WITH PRIVATE SPA NEAR THE CENTER OF AURILLAC The Change of Altitude gite occupies a 65 m² apartment on the ground floor of a small 2-storey stone building. Its location, near the historic center of Aurillac, 5 minutes walk from the train station, allows easy access to the shops and cultural sites of the city. Following the recent renovation, the space has gained in brightness and comfort. The living room has a beautiful open kitchen, well equipped and functional, organized around a central island. You will prepare your meals there, you will eat there and share moments of conviviality. The central island, the heart of the kitchen, ensures the transition with the living room. In pink and white marble, the old fireplace, kept during the renovation, is a decorative element in its own right. A cozy sofa bed offers an additional extra bed for 2 people. Wifi connection, connected television with VOD service included: everything is provided to enhance your stay. Soft colors, a wooden bunk bed, plaids, soft cushions: the chalet-style decor brings a cocooning touch to the large 25 m² bedroom. Good to know The rental is equipped with a washing machine A storage space for skis is available. Pets are not allowed A HOLIDAY BETWEEN NATURE AND CULTURE TO RECHARGE YOUR BATTERIES AND FILL UP ON EMOTIONS Explore the historic center of Aurillac and its museums, discover the Jordanne valley, venture to the top of the Cantal mountains, descend the ski slopes of Lioran, follow the historic route of the castles of Auvergne, attend a street theater performance or cheese tasting. Focus on some ideas for visits and walks to do during your stay at the Change of Altitude gite. Historic town and heritage town, Aurillac, the prefecture of Cantal has some remarkable monuments: the Château Saint-Etienne, the Abbey of Saint-Géraud, listed private mansions (de Noailles, de Cébié, de Malras, de Noailles). To make sure you don't miss any of the city's hidden treasures, you can book a guided tour at the tourist office. In the buildings of the former national stud farms, the Museum of Art and Archeology traces life and habitat in Cantal until the medieval period. The museum also houses paintings and sculptures. On the ground floor, you can admire a fine collection of parasols and umbrellas. Did you know ? Aurillac is the umbrella capital of France. While visiting the city center, you will come across the Maison Piganiol shop, a family business founded in 1884. You can even visit the umbrella factory. The Museum of Volcanoes presents the inner workings of the Earth and volcanic phenomena on a global scale. A section is devoted to the geological and natural history of the Cantal area. A good introduction before exploring the Cantal mountains! Attending the international street theater festival is a unique experience. Since 1986, multiple shows and performances have enlivened the streets and public spaces of the city center. Originality and diversity are on the program. If you want to take part in this major cultural event, come at the end of August. All around Aurillac, you can extend your discovery of the heritage by exploring the beautiful Cantal villages. These include the Small Towns of Character ® of Marcolès, 25 km away and Montsalvy, 33 km away. We also recommend Salers, 40 km away, and Tournemire, 24 km away, classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France®. Take the time to stroll through the alleys, look up so as not to miss the architectural nuggets that surround you and sit down on the terrace of a restaurant to taste a local specialty: plate of cheese and/or charcuterie, truffade, cabbage. stuffed, pounti, bourriol… The castles are part of the heritage of Cantal. By following the historic route of the castles of Auvergne, you can visit in the vicinity of Aurillac: the Château de Conros in Arpajon-sur-Cère (6 km), the Château de Sédaiges in Marmanhac (15 km) and the Castle of Pesteil in Polminhac (15 km). In the Cantal, the landscapes have been shaped by volcanic activity and constitute a beautiful playground for hikers, cyclists and mountain bikers. The natural sites near Aurillac lend themselves to all kinds of leisure and outdoor activities. The Gorges de la Jordanne Discovery Trail is accessible to all. To take this path is to dive into the heart of a preserved natural heritage that combines river, steep rock faces and overhanging forest. You will follow the Jordanne along the bridges, corbelled passages and paths laid out with respect for the natural environment. The route, punctuated with educational terminals inviting you to identify a tree or an animal footprint, ends with a waterfall: refreshing! Fishing, motor boats, pedal boats, canoes, paddles: the shores of Lake Saint-Etienne-Cantalès, the largest artificial lake in Auvergne, are ideal for many water activities. On the beach of the Puech des Ouilhes peninsula, swimming is supervised during the summer period. The beach 20 km from Aurillac, incredible, isn't it? On the slopes and trails of the largest volcano in Europe, you can hike in the summer and ski in the winter. The Cantal mountains, in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Volcanoes of Auvergne, form a marvelous natural and landscaped ensemble of mid-mountains. When it comes to hiking, you will have a wide choice! The Plomb du Cantal, the highest at 1,855 meters, the Puy Mary, the most famous, classified Grand Site de France®, and the Puy Griou, the most pointed are the 3 unmissable peaks of the Cantal massif. Which will you climb? If you are not too sporty, choose the Plomb du Cantal, you can reach it thanks to the cable car from the Lioran station. It is quite possible to take the train to go skiing, leaving from Aurillac and stopping at the Lioran resort. Even more surprising, you can even take a ski lift from the exit of the station. You will love the trails laid out in the middle place of fir trees. And if you want to mix disciplines, you can opt for snowshoeing, the snakegliss ("snake" of toboggans) at nightfall, the ice rink... In summer, the resort offers outdoor activities for the whole family.
