You will stay in the south-west of Cantal, just ten kilometers from the town of Aurillac.
The hilly rural landscapes, dotted with fields and woods, of the Cantal Chestnut grove await you for an unforgettable holiday!
A character stone house with a large garden
This beautiful detached house is located in a quiet hamlet, close to Roannes-Saint-Mary. Its exposed stone walls and its magnificent slate roof with silver reflections give it an authentic charm.
This vacation rental of 160 m², on 2 levels, offers beautiful volumes. It has a capacity of 8 people and is perfect for family reunions or a stay with friends.
Passing the threshold of the house, you will be charmed by the living room. The cantou, a large open fireplace, reminds us that the building is old. In the evening, at the vigil, you can gather around the fire, wood is provided free of charge. You will easily prepare your meals in the fully equipped kitchen and share them around the farmhouse table.
This holiday home has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with shower and 2 separate toilets. The bedrooms are distributed as follows: 1 bedroom with a 160 cm bed, 1 bedroom with a 140 cm bed and 2 bedrooms each with 2 90 cm beds. If you come on holiday with a baby, a kit is available to you. The rental has a private washing machine.
To entertain you, the accommodation is equipped with an internet connection, a TV, a DVD player and a library.
The surroundings of the house are carefully laid out and contribute to the quality of the place.
A stone outbuilding, nicely restored, opens onto the garden. You can take your meals there, sheltered from the sun or bad weather. Barbecue, garden furniture everything is implemented so that you can fully enjoy the large garden.
Pets are not allowed.
Relax and stroll in the Chestnut grove of Cantal
A great diversity of landscapes and multiple experiences await you in the Cantal Chestnut Grove! The “porte du midi” in the south-west of the department is a peaceful and green territory where life is good. Whatever your desire, here are some ideas for walks.
The Trou du Diable, 15 km from your rental, in Vitrac will offer you a refreshing break, as will the discovery trail of the Gorges de la Jordanne in Saint-Cirgues-de-Jordanne (30 km). These two sites can be visited with the family, picnic areas have been set up.
The largest artificial lake in Auvergne is located 25 km from your accommodation. The lake of Saint-Etienne-Cantalès extends over more than 13 km. Renowned for fishing, it is also a great place for nautical activities: boat rental, paddle, pedal boats, canoes and swimming on the beaches of Rénac and Espinet.
The 30-hectare “Vallée des Daims” animal park in Junhac is particularly popular with children. On foot or by little train, you will set off to meet deer: fallow deer, doe and fawn.
Between woods and groves, valleys, hills and meadows you can indulge in hiking or cycling. If you are a cyclist, you will undoubtedly take the road between Maurs and Marcolès, which runs along the Rance.
During your stay, we invite you to stroll through the streets of the medieval villages of Marcolès, Montsalvy and Maurs la Jolie.
Marcolès is a charming little town full of character. Cobbled streets, granite houses, the discreet charm of the village reveals itself with the rhythm of the seasons.
After visiting Montsalvy, stop off at Puy de l'Arbre, a privileged place to observe the mountains of Cantal, Aubrac and the Aurillac basin.
In Maurs-la-Jolie, the half-timbered houses and red roofs give a southern air to the medieval town nicknamed “little Nice of Cantal”.
The chestnut, the “star” of the region, is featured at the Maison de la Châtaigne in Mourjou. A museum space, chestnut orchards and a shop to stock up on local products, at the end of the visit, you will be unbeatable!
A getaway on the Cantal mountains
For a day, you will set off to discover the Cantal mountains in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Volcanoes of Auvergne.
Take the path to reach the summit of Puy Mary, Grand Site de France, at 1,787 meters above sea level. And take the time to admire the marvelous panorama. On your way back down, fill up on information at the Site House.
Extend your journey to Salers, one of the most beautiful villages in France. And let yourself be tempted by a tasting of cheese, red meat and taste its famous biscuit: the square!

Nous avons passé un super séjour à St Mary. Le gîte est vraiment très agréable, décoré avec beaucoup de goût, bien équipé et très propre. On s'y est senti aussi bien que dans une maison de famille. Le jardin idéal pour notre chasse aux oeufs! La région est très belle et riche aussi bien en balades nature qu'en visites plus culturelles! Un grand merci encore!

Marie est vraiment arrangeante et agréable. Le gîte est magnifique, belle batisse typique, grand jardin, tout est bien équipé, belle déco !
Quel bonheur que de séjourner dans un endroit aussi chaleureux que celui-ci ! Les hôtes, d'abord. Alain et Marie proposent un super accueil personnalisé. Ils connaissent le Cantal comme leur poche et sont à même de répondre à toutes les questions, quelles qu'elle soient (brocantes, marchés, spots touristiques, randos, etc.) La maison, ensuite. Jamais nous n'avons loué un gîte décoré avec autant de soin et de goût. Tout est fait et pensé pour se sentir "comme à la maison". Ici, pas de vaisselle impersonnelle ou de meuble miteux remisé d’un grenier. Non. Tout, de la déco aux ustensiles en passant par la literie ou l’aménagement du jardin, reflète l’envie d’offrir le meilleur aux personnes qui décident se séjourner dans le gîte. Tout en restant absolument fonctionnel – barbecue, lave-vaisselle, chauffage, sanitaires… Le tout dans une bâtisse à l’histoire riche et inspirante. Un vrai bonheur. La région, enfin. Les paysages vallonnés du Cantal, la douceur d’entendre les cloches des vaches, les vues sur les monts dès qu’on part s’aventurer sur les sentiers… Un vrai régal que cette semaine à Roannes-St Mary. Et hâte d’y revenir.
