Discover Dol-de-Bretagne and the surrounding area during your holiday

For your next holiday in Brittany, let yourself be tempted by Ille-et-Vilaine and come and discover Dol-de-Bretagne and its riches! Dol-de-Bretagne is located in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine in the northern part of the Brittany region. The town is ideally situated, just a few kilometres from the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel and Saint-Malo. It was an episcopal town until the 19th century, and is home to the majestic Saint-Samson cathedral, which is well worth a visit for its Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Make the most of your self-catering holiday to visit this listed cathedral. You can also see the granite boat at Lanhélin, built by sculptor Jean-Yves Ménez to illustrate the legend of Saint-Samson, who arrived in Dol in a "stone trough". Your stay in Dol-de-Bretagne will take you back to the Middle Ages. From your Clévacances gîte, stroll along the cobbled streets with their houses with porches and pillars, home to shops, delicatessens, restaurants and crêperies. Walk up this street past the covered market, then take the "Jules Revert" footbridge down to the moat, which has been converted into a garden. There are also photo exhibitions on the ramparts. 5 minutes from Dol-de-Bretagne is "Mont Dol", 65 m high, with a panoramic view over the whole of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. Here you'll find a chapel, a crêperie and a working mill that can be visited. Take advantage of our ideally located gites and set off to discover Dol-de-Bretagne with Clévacances.

Activities to do in Dol de Bretagne and the surrounding area

There are plenty of activities to enjoy during your holiday in a gite in Dol-de-Bretagne. During your stay, visit museums and castles, sample Breton gastronomy and its local produce, take advantage of the forest to go hiking, walking or cycling along the coast and from Saint-Benoit-des-Ondes, towards Mont-Saint-Michel. Start your holiday at the Musée le Cathédraloscope, close to the Cathédrale Saint-Samson, which takes you back to the time of the cathedral builders. Guided tours are organised and you'll have to solve riddles and create construction games while having fun to understand how these mysterious monuments were built. Ideal for a family holiday! Stop off at Le Vivier-sur-Mer to sample the PDO bouchot mussels and take a "mytili-mobile" or "Train Marin" out into the bay to discover their culture and ecosystem. Take advantage of your holiday to go sand yachting at Hirel and Cherrueix on the sandbanks facing the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. A little further inland, near Dol, you can walk around the pond in the Ville-Cartier National Forest at Bazouges and take advantage of the site's accrobranche (tree climbing) facilities. If you're a fan of fortified castles, you can head to Combourg (cradle of Romanticism), where you'll find a magnificent medieval castle, with its 25-hectare park and lake. The writer François-René Chateaubriand spent time here as a child, and was inspired to write his book "Mémoires d'outre-tombe". And to round off your holiday in style, stop off at the Chapelle Sainte-Anne to discover this natural site with its meadows covered by the sea and grasslands, where salt-meadow lambs graze, before visiting the "Wonder" that is Mont-Saint-Michel in the Manche department with its abbey and museums. Another way to discover this exceptional site is to walk with a guide in the bay, following the tides and shifting sands. As you can see, your holiday in Dol-de-Bretagne promises to be full of discoveries! Whether you're looking for a gîte for one night or a longer stay, at the weekend or during the week, with a swimming pool or garden, choose the accommodation that's right for you from among our many Clévacances-labelled properties. For your next holiday on the Atlantic coast, discover Dol-de-Bretagne and book one of our ideally located gîtes.
