Discover Bayeux and the surrounding area during your holidays

Do you want to enjoy a friendly and comfortable stay? For your next holiday in Calvados, choose Clévacances bed and breakfast accommodation! Our owners will welcome you to their quality-labelled accommodation and guest rooms, so you can enjoy your holiday in complete confidence. Let yourself be tempted by Calvados and come and discover the town of Bayeux and all its treasures! Bayeux owes its worldwide reputation to its priceless treasure, the tapestry of Queen Matilda, better known as the Bayeux Tapestry. This tapestry, made from woollen embroidery, was created in the 11th century. Measuring 70 metres long and 50 centimetres high, it depicts the invasion of England by the Normans and its conquest by the Duke of Normandy, William the Conqueror. If you'd like to find out more about this very special technique, this ancestral Bayeux stitch embroidery, drop in at Bayeux Broderie. Chantal James, an embroidery enthusiast, will be delighted to show you reproductions of the Bayeux tapestry and other designs. Bayeux is also renowned for its porcelain creations and the large collection of works of art at the MAHB. This art museum is dedicated to the history of Bayeux, with the aim of highlighting its architectural heritage. To this end, it organises numerous events. Make the most of your stay in a B&B in Bayeux to visit the museum and discover the history of the town. For more information, contact the Tourist Office. Bayeux is also famous for its lace. The aim of the Conservatoire de la Dentelle is to preserve over 300 years of lace-making expertise. Exhibitions are held there, and introductory and training sessions are offered. Your holiday in Bayeux will be the perfect opportunity to try your hand at this craft! Bayeux is also inextricably linked with a major event in our country's history: the Allied landings in the summer of 1944 on what are now known as the D-Day Beaches. During your stay, discover this place steeped in history, with its moving British military cemetery and its duty to remember. The Battle of Normandy Memorial Museum pays tribute to the soldiers of all nations who fell for the triumph of freedom, through exhibitions on the history of this battle. Spared from the bombardments of the Second World War, Bayeux has been able to preserve its historic heritage: its Romanesque and Gothic cathedral, its bourgeois houses, its elegant town houses and houses from the 17th and 18th centuries, its timber-framed houses and manor houses. From your bed and breakfast, take a stroll through the town's quiet, narrow streets. During your B&B holidays in Bayeux and during the summer season, enjoy the show "Rendez-vous à la cathédrale : les Lumières de la Liberté". Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Liberty Tree are transformed into ephemeral screens, with 360° projections on the theme of freedom in Normandy and around the world. As you can see, for a holiday on the theme of History, don't miss our guest rooms located in Bayeux in Calvados.
