Road cycling in the Hautes-Pyrénées: a land of legends for cyclists The Hautes-Pyrénées is a veritable paradise for road bike enthusiasts. With its legendary mountain passes, breathtaking scenery and history deeply linked to cycling, the region attracts thousands of enthusiasts every year in search of challenges and thrills.

Mythical passes to climb:
The Hautes-Pyrénées is famous for being home to some of the Tour de France's most iconic cols. Among them:
The Col du Tourmalet (2,115 m): The most famous of the Pyrenean cols, a must for any cyclist looking to take on a legendary climb. With a 19km ascent from Luz-Saint-Sauveur and gradients of up to 10%, it's a real test of endurance.
The Col d'Aubisque (1,709 m): Often associated with the Col du Soulor (1,474 m), this route offers breathtaking panoramas and is a must for fans of beautiful mountain roads.
The Col d'Aspin (1,489 m): Less demanding than the Tourmalet, it offers a more accessible but equally impressive climb, with magnificent views over the valley.
The Col de Peyresourde (1,569 m): Situated on the border between the Hautes-Pyrénées and the Haute-Garonne, it is appreciated for its regular switchbacks and open views over the mountains.

Must-see cycling events:
In addition to the Tour de France, the Hautes-Pyrénées hosts a number of cycling events open to amateurs each year:
Tour de France: A cyclosportive that allows amateurs to tackle the same routes as the Tour de France pros or to go and support the cyclists.
La Marmotte Granfondo Pyrénées: A demanding challenge over a number of iconic passes.
Les Montées Chronométrées: Organised in summer, this is a chance to test your performance on the legendary climbs.
Cycling-friendly infrastructure:
The region makes a point of welcoming cyclists in the best possible conditions. There are many inns, hotels and gîtes with the "Accueil Vélo" label, guaranteeing appropriate services: secure storage for bikes, repair equipment, and menus tailored to the needs of sports enthusiasts.
Resorts such as Luz-Saint-Sauveur, Bagnères-de-Bigorre and Argelès-Gazost are perfect starting points, with specialist shops and bike hire.
