The Suran, born in the department of Jura, quietly clears its way in a karstic relief where its waters are sometimes lost in its underground bed. A quiet valley where the water flows randomly. You can admire while strolling there, mills, fords, meanders, ruins of castles, witnesses of a rich past. A must see: The "Pierre Fiche" menhir (Historic monument): In Simandre-sur-Suran, along the old Roman road, sits the only menhir in the department. It dates from 2500 BC (Bronze Age) and measures 3.80 m in height. La Chartreuse de Sélignac, founded in 1202: On the road to Corveissiat, sits this imposing building. Before leaving on a crusade, the Lord of Coligny donated the lands of Sélignac to the Order of Carthusians. Since 1211 and until 2001, monks lived in Sélignac.
