At the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Park, about thirty kilometers from Aurillac, Pailherols is a peaceful mountain village of 140 inhabitants. You will stay in a completely renovated character house, located in the village of Pailherols. At nearly 1,000 meters above sea level, the air is pure and there are plenty of outdoor activities. Let yourself be tempted by a nature holiday. A CHARACTER HOUSE FOR 6 PEOPLE IN A MOUNTAIN VILLAGE Slate roof and local stone walls. It is in a typical house of the Auvergne region that this cottage has found place. The recent renovation has preserved the authenticity of the place while bringing comfort and modernity. This cottage with an area of 90 m² is spread over 2 levels. On the completely recomposed ground floor, different spaces are organised. A space is dedicated to the kitchen, a second to taking meals, a third to relaxation. A stone wall in dark, slightly bluish colors rubs shoulders with the white and terracotta tones of the other sections of the wall. The open kitchen has a large worktop and plenty of storage. Functional, it is equipped with hotplates, a microwave oven, a refrigerator, a dishwasher, etc. The table is installed in its extension. In this very bright living room, the pellet stove is nestled in the old cantou, the traditional fireplace. The lounge area, with its comfortable sofa and television, is close to the hearth. In the adjoining laundry room, you will have a washing machine and a toilet. A wooden staircase serves the 3 bedrooms and the bathroom located upstairs. Each room has a cozy bed (140 X 190 cm) and a storage cupboard. When you arrive, the beds will be made. If you come on holiday with a young child, a baby kit will be provided to you, on request. The bathroom, in soft white and gray tones, consists of a walk-in shower and a vanity unit. On this floor there is also a separate toilet. This vacation rental has a landscaped courtyard. In fine weather, you can sit on the terrace around the garden furniture, take your meals there, prepare your grilled meats on the barbecue and enjoy the tranquility of the place! You can park your vehicle in the yard. Pets are allowed, without the prior agreement of the owners. Of course, there is hiking, various marked trails are accessible near your cottage. Between the Cantal massif and the famous Plomb du Cantal, Puy Griou and Puy Mary and the Pas de Cère gorges, you will have an incredible playground. Let us mention, among many others, the Ma Montagne hike starting from the village of Pailherols. The path is punctuated by around forty sculptures of hurdles (traditional barrier used by cowherds to herd herds), a work by Camille Henrot paying homage to the buronniers. Allow 3 hours to complete this 10 km hike, without difficulty, which gives you a view of the typical landscapes of this Auvergne high plateau. Also noteworthy, 16 km from Pailherols, is the Pas de Cère discovery trail, starting at the Pas de Cère rest area in Thiézac. In these gorges, a glacier has dug a deep gash in the volcanic rock, the Cère river has made its way there. Part of this 5 km family hike allows you to walk along the river, a refreshing break in summer. Not far from there, we recommend the Roucolle and Faillitoux waterfalls in Thiézac. You can explore the plateaus of Pailherols on an electrically assisted mountain bike. It is possible to rent one in the village. This activity is accessible to the whole family. On the Mur-de-Barrez side, between the Monts du Cantal and the north of Aveyron, 15 km from your vacation rental, you will find 17 mountain bike circuits and 18 labeled cyclos. The alternation of plateaus with gentle slopes interspersed with successive valleys will satisfy the most athletic among you. Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding or dog sledding: the Espace Nordique de Pailherols en Carladez is above all a family area. You will appreciate its authenticity and its tracks traced on pastoral paths. Rejuvenation guaranteed facing the snow-capped Cantal mountains… If you prefer downhill skiing, take the direction of Lioran, about forty kilometers from Pailherols. Another atmosphere in this winter sports resort with the largest ski area in the Massif Central and 44 ski slopes. Looking for a more relaxing activity? Several options are available to you: swimming and fishing in the Truyère gorges, a round of golf in Vézac, visiting the Château de Pesteils in Polminhac, discovering the Little City of Character® of Raulhac and the castle de Messilhac or a getaway to Vic-su-Cère, a former 19th century spa resort. Impossible to leave without bringing back in your luggage the local products that make the reputation of Cantal. The most famous is certainly the cheese. On the first weekend of June, the Traditional Cheese Festival attracts a large crowd to Pailherols. In the village, a cheese dairy perpetuates the traditional production of Salers AOP and Cantal. On Tuesday and Friday mornings, the Vic-sur-Cère market is held, 14 km from your accommodation. Cheeses, charcuterie, pounti, truffade, bourriols and Carladez tome tart: all the flavors of the Cantal region are brought together, foodies take note!
