Our gîte, located at 61 Quai St Réal, on the 1st floor of a family house, has been fully renovated and available to rent since 2015. It gives access to a private garden and is situated on the banks of the Isère in a quiet area, yet very close to the centre and shops thanks to a small footbridge over the river. Situated at an altitude of 481 metres, Moûtiers in the Tarentaise region of Savoie will charm you in many ways: *Its position at the crossroads of the 3 valleys gives you quick access to numerous ski resorts: -the Trois Vallées ski area: one of the largest ski areas in the world, with 8 resorts: _Courchevel_ (accessible from Saint Bon tarentaise at 17 mn (14 km)), _La Tania _at 23mn (18.3 km), _Méribel _at 25 mn (17.6km), _Brides-les-Bains_ 8 mins from the gite (6 km) spa resort linked to Méribel by the Olympus cable car, the Belleville valley with _Les Menuires_, _Saint Martin de Belleville_ 26 mins (20 km), _Val Thorens_ linked to _Orelle_ in the Maurienne, a total of 600km of pistes. -Paradiski: One of the largest ski areas in Europe, Paradiski is a delight for skiers. It brings together the ski slopes of _la Plagne_, _Peisey _33 mins away (29km), _Vallandry_ and _les Arcs_. Paradiski has a 2000m vertical drop facing Mont Blanc, from the Bellecôte glacier at 3250m to the fir and spruce forests up to 1250m, with 425km of pistes. Valmorel_ (25 mins, or 16.7 km) is a friendly ski resort with a style reminiscent of the old Savoy villages (all wood and stone), linked to the St François Longchamp ski area in the Maurienne. *Its location less than 10 minutes from two spa resorts: Brides Les Bains and La Léchère: for your cures or simply to treat yourself to the benefits of a spa....(Grand Spa Thermal de Brides-les-Bains or Spa O des Lauzes de La Léchère). *In summer: Many walks and hikes are possible in the surrounding area, as well as numerous sporting activities (fishing, swimming with the Morel water sports centre 7 minutes away (5 km), canoeing, kayaking, horse-riding, golf....). *Whatever the season, discover: The Musée des Traditions Populaires (Museum of Popular Traditions): an ideal place to discover the rural civilisation of the Tarentaise region, with displays on vine-growing, traditional crafts, religious art, particularly Baroque... It is also a place of remembrance of the Second World War in the Tarentaise... The Museum of History and Archaeology: a chronological and thematic tour presenting Moûtiers and the Tarentaise region from prehistory to the 20th century: daily life, religion, the economy from the Bronze Age to the Roman era and the changing role of the city, seat of a former archbishopric, provincial capital and active crossroads with its salt works and its short-lived mining school. -A guided tour of the town with the help of a small booklet on sale at the Tourist Office: a tour of the historic centre to discover the past of Darentasia, the name of the town in Gallo-Roman times. You'll pass through the medieval streets, the remains of Monasterium, whose name evokes an important religious centre. -St Peter's Cathedral: a former Roman Catholic cathedral, it was listed as a historic monument on 30 October 1862. It was originally the seat of the archdiocese of Moûtiers-Tarentaise, which was abolished following the Concordat of 2 April 1802, which created the bishopric of Chambéry-Genève. The cathedral then became the seat of the Tarentaise diocese from 1825 to 1966, until a decree from the Holy See united the three bishoprics of Chambéry, Moûtiers and Saint Jean de Maurienne into the bishopric of Chambéry, Maurienne and Tarentaise. -The dairy cooperative: here, every day, Beaufort cheese is produced, an AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) cheese from the high pastures of Savoie. Discover mountain farming through a tour of the Beaufort production rooms and maturing cellars, interviews with farmers (audiovisual montage) and a film (with English subtitles). -Markets: Tuesdays (food in the morning and clothes and accessories all day - afternoons subject to availability). Friday mornings (food). -Exhibitions: every month, an artist exhibits his or her work (paintings, sculptures, photographs) in the Tourist Office reception area. Open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 12pm and 2pm to 6.30pm.
