Its fine sandy beaches and refined cuisine are what make it so special. This island promises an unsuspected change of scenery for your holidays, or simply for a weekend! Find your holiday rental on the Ile d'Oléron from among the many Clévacances-labelled offers.

The flavours of Charente-Maritime delight so many visitors every year! Cooking neophytes and fine gourmets alike take considerable pleasure in sampling the best local recipes. This is perfectly represented by Marennes Oléron oysters. Raised in oyster beds, they are distinguished by their very fine flavour. These molluscs are served as a main course in the oven, sometimes stuffed, but can also be eaten raw with a good vinaigrette. If you're particularly fond of seafood, you'll be spoilt for choice at the port of La Cotinière! The various shellfish and fresh fish presented by the fishermen will certainly give you some recipe ideas. You'll also find vermée charentaise and daube saintongeaise, two exquisite culinary specialities, on the plates of the people of Oleron.
The range of desserts is not left out in this charming corner of the Poitou-Charentes region! After an afternoon on the beach, treat yourself to a slice of galette charentaise. This sweet treat is perfectly complemented by a cup of coffee or a glass of white wine. Other culinary discoveries will surprise you, such as the bière des naufrageurs. Available in different varieties, this drink was awarded three gold medals at the national beer competition in the 2000s.
When staying on the island of Oléron during the summer, you'll find it hard to resist going for a swim. For example, you have the option of taking in the colours on the west coast, which is particularly popular with surfers. To the north-east, the Douhet, Gautrelle and Saumonards beaches are more suitable for families. They are well sheltered from the wind, and the sea is calm and suitable for young children. The coastal scenery is just as attractive in the north-east, but the area is less suitable for swimming. Lazy days are not enough for everyone, far from it! Fortunately, the island of Oléron offers visitors a wide variety of activities. The Centre Nautique du Château introduces youngsters to the joys of sea kayaking and windsurfing. The show is no less exhilarating below the surface. The seabed holds surprises and a few mysteries in store for divers!
There's another pastime that brings everyone together along the coast: it's the highly fashionable stand-up paddle. You don't need to be strong or agile to practise it, this discipline is rather easy to grasp and allows you to enjoy the scenery with maximum freedom. Between two activities, don't hesitate to visit the market at Grand-Village-Plage or Château d'Oléron. Merchants there offer the best local produce, including fresh fish not to be missed.
Your holiday rental on the Ile d'Oléron benefits from an advantageous location. The towns of La Rochelle and Royan are close by and promise some very rewarding visits, not forgetting its cousin and its many holiday rentals on the Ile de Ré. In Royan, you can discover the beautiful Notre Dame church and take a walk in the unspoilt environment of the Parc de l'Estuaire. The pleasures are different in La Rochelle: there's a superb aquarium and the Musée des Automates.
