Saint-Pierre-la-Mer: its culinary specialities

The gastronomy of the Aude will not leave you indifferent, far from it! It is made up of several culinary specialities based on fish or seafood. The first is sardinade. The sardines are cooked whole, simply flavoured with Provence herbs and drizzled with a little olive oil. Then there's the brasucade de moules, another convivial recipe that's perfect for sharing al fresco on sunny days in the south. To tantalise your taste buds, we highlight other choice dishes such as razor clams in parsley sauce or the famous Languedoc-style snails. If you're just feeling peckish between activities or a few minutes before lunch, the fougasse aux fritons will definitely satisfy your hunger!

Saint-Pierre-la-Mer doesn't boast any truly original desserts, but a few of its restaurateurs offer popular Aude sweets such as apple croustade, popular in the Lauragais region. To accompany fruit salads, cakes or sorbets, Cartagène is particularly popular on the Languedoc coast. This sweet liqueur wine is also used to prepare certain dishes.

Activities in Saint-Pierre-la-Mer

The best local produce is on public display at the Halles Lo Vilatge as well as the Saint-Pierre market, so you'll have plenty of time to bring back from your holiday the foods that pleasantly surprised you. Situated between Gruissan and Valras-Plage, Saint-Pierre-la-Mer boasts around 5 kilometres of unspoilt coastline. You'll be able to sunbathe and swim in crystal-clear waters wherever you set up your parasol! The town's southern beach has the advantage of a children's club, while the northern beach differs from the former in that it offers an area dedicated to kitesurfing, an activity favoured by many sports enthusiasts.

You'll also have the opportunity to have fun with friends playing beach volleyball, a discipline that's as much fun as it is physically demanding. To delight young children, head to the Domaine de l'Oustalet Pony Club. There are also a number of activities that are popular further away from the coast. These include walks around the Gouffre de l'oeil doux. And wine tourism is not to be outdone in the region! The La Clape wine-growing region has its own AOC label, so it would be a mistake to miss out on a few quality estates, including Château d'Anglès.

Must-see attractions around Saint-Pierre-la-Mer

Among the sights to discover near your bed and breakfast in Saint-Pierre-la-Mer, families particularly appreciate the Aquajet de Narbonne during the summer period. This establishment has a large freshwater pool, inflatable games and several slides that children love. The sub-prefecture of Aude is known far beyond the south of France for its leisure parks like Aquajet. Holidaymakers also flock to the town's historic monuments. The Collegiate Church of Saint-Sébastien and the Archbishops' Palace contain unsuspected treasures that you wouldn't want to miss! The town also boasts a wealth of cultural attractions, including the Musée Archéologique and the Musée de la Chevalerie.
