Discover the Marne during your holidays

The Marne, named after the main river that runs through it, is a multi-faceted department with a history closely linked to the most famous of wines: champagne! It is also an area that has often been at the heart of French history, notably with Reims Cathedral and the coronation of the Kings of France, the First World War and the French Revolution at the Moulin de Valmy. From your bed and breakfast, set off to discover the Marne and its wealth of architecture and French history. Only opened a few years ago, the 1914-1918 Interpretation Centre at Suippes and the nearby military cemeteries will help you understand and remember. The Marne is also a destination full of nuggets to discover, such as the Verzenay Lighthouse, set in the middle of the vineyards. You're not dreaming, there really is a lighthouse in Champagne! Once used for advertising, the lighthouse is now one of the many sites on the Champagne Tourist Route. Exploring this route means discovering the heart of the Marne and the Champagne region, with the producers who make this sparkling wine known and recognised the world over. Your Champagne holiday will also be an opportunity to explore the Montagne de Reims, now a Regional Nature Park. Here you'll find the Faux de Verzy, a forest of twisted beech trees: a unique discovery full of surprises. Bring your walking shoes for a hike that's accessible to all, in this fragile site that's constantly changing. A nature destination in its own right, the Marne (along with the Haute-Marne) boasts Europe's largest man-made lake: Lac du Der. There's something for everyone, from hikers and bikers to horse-riders, water sports enthusiasts, anglers and birdwatchers! The main points of interest are the Village-Musée du Der at Sainte-Marie-du-Lac Nuisement, the church at Champaubert, the Giffaumont water sports centre and the observation areas at Chantecoq and Étangs d'Outines. So, don't hesitate any longer and take advantage of a Clévacances rental ideally located for exploring the Marne and its landscapes.

Activities to do in the Marne

Do you enjoy meeting new people and want a warm welcome on your holiday in the Marne? With Clévacances, you won't be disappointed! The owners of our guest rooms will offer you generous quality breakfasts and will be able to recommend their best addresses in the region. From your guest room, ideally located in the Marne, set off to discover the Champagne region. A multitude of activities await you in the Marne. Your holiday in Champagne will start with a visit to one of the thousands of wine cellars in Épernay (the world capital of champagne) or in one of the villages on the Montagne de Reims to learn about the production process and taste the famous beverage during a tasting session, in moderation. An emblematic product of the region, champagne has been classified as an AOC since 1936. Still in the world of gastronomy, take the time to discover all the secrets of the Reims pink biscuit! Visit Maison Fossier, the oldest biscuit factory in France, and then indulge your sweet tooth with a stop in the shop. You'll find a range of products based on the pink biscuit, including madeleines, shortbread, jam and spreads. Around Lac du Der, a cycle path has been laid out to allow you to explore the lake from a different angle over a distance of around fifty kilometres. Without making a sound, climb up to a birdwatching area to observe the many species of birds that can be found there. And after all that sightseeing, relax in the comfort of your guest room before setting off on new adventures! Whether you're with family or friends, come and stay in one of our many guest rooms and discover the charm of the Marne for a night or a longer stay.
