Visiting Granville and the surrounding area

Granville is one of Normandy's most sought-after seaside resorts. Depending on what you fancy, relax on the fine sandy beaches in and around Granville. There are a number of supervised beaches around Granville, so you can swim in complete safety. The town has a good number of restaurants and bars where you can sample the various specialities of Normandy or simply enjoy a meal with a view of the sea.

Granville is particularly popular for its living environment, so you'll also find a fairly well-known place to visit: the Christian Dior museum. The museum is located in a former villa on the heights of Granville. First of all, you'll enjoy strolling through the villa's beautiful gardens, which boast superb sea views, and then you'll love discovering the contents of the villa, a museum that traces the history of designer Christian Dior.

Less than an hour's drive from Granville, you'll find Mont Saint-Michel. This French heritage monument is particularly appreciated for its beauty and originality. You'll have the chance to climb up to the islet of Mont Saint-Michel and enter this small fortified village. At the top, you'll find the Abbey of Mont Saint-Michel, a very interesting place to visit that will explain the history of the islet and show you how it has evolved over the centuries. From the terrace of the abbey or the walls that protect Mont Saint-Michel, you can enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the entire coastline. If you enjoy hiking, you should know that it is possible to cross the bay of Mont Saint-Michel on foot. This crossing can only be done if you are accompanied by a guide for safety reasons, so as not to get caught out by the tide or quicksand, however it is a unique experience that you can do in shoes… or barefoot!

Other tourist spots are available close to Granville. La Manche was very much marked by the Second World War and many remnants of that era leave their mark on the region. Museums explain the ins and outs of the war, such as the Airborne Museum in Sainte-Mère-Eglise. If you are already familiar with the subject, other original outings are possible such as the airship hangar at Ecausseville.
