Discover the heritage and gastronomy of Beaune and the surrounding area on your next trip! This not-to-be-missed destination will give you the chance to discover new tastes in wine. Book your holiday rental in one of the Clévacances gîtes or chambres d'hôtes in Beaune on the website.
Beaune is located in Côte d'Or in the region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, 50 km from Dijon. This fortified city lies at the heart of the wine region. Its architectural claim to fame is undeniably the Hospices de Beaune. Recognisable by its roof of coloured tiles in geometric patterns, this 15th-century hospital foundation has now become the Hôtel-dieu museum. Those in the know will have seen the building in the film "La Grande Vadrouille". Every year, the largest wine auction in the world is held over a weekend in November. Rent a Clévacances gîte and attend this moment when amateurs and connoisseurs meet and trade for a host of festivities including street shows, parades, a gastronomic village, and even its traditional half-marathon.
For those who don't want to wait until November to discover Burgundy's viticulture, you can take a tour during your stay of the cellars in Beaune, located on the outskirts of the town. The Pinot Noir, Gamay, Chardonnay and Aligoté grape varieties will no longer hold any secrets for you! All you have to do to become a wine connoisseur is explore the 44 appellations such as Aloxe-Corton, Gevrey-Chambertin, Meursault, Pommard, Vosne-Romanée, Volnay and Vougeot. To accompany a fine wine, there's nothing better than a traditional meal during your holiday. It could be beef bourguignon, itself cooked with red wine, coq au vin or a good cheese from Cîteaux Abbey.
And what would Beaune's gastronomy be without Moutarde de Dijon ? Based in the town of Beaune, the Fallot mustard factory seems to be the last to survive in the region, since you can even discover the Mustard Museum.
Book a gîte on the clevacances.com website and enjoy the exceptional scenery of Beaune, an international tourist destination, during your stay. As well as the Climats de Bourgogne EST, a UNESCO World Heritage site. For the more sporty, after taking part in the Beaune Half Marathon in November, take the "voie des vignes" from Beaune to Nolay. The "voie des vignes" takes you along small roads with lovely views through the villages of Pommard, Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. It is linked by a greenway that allows you to discover two different trails: Chagny or Nolay, a medieval town with its stone-roofed Halles.
2km from the centre of Beaune, close to the commune of Combertault, the Beaune-Levernois Golf Course offers pleasure to the region's golfers with its huge green carpet, 9 lakes, and thousands of planted trees. If you want to take some time for yourself during your holiday and take a break from the daily grind, discover the spa town of Santenay, a wine-growing and tourist village on the Beaune coast. Santenay's water is renowned for its beneficial effects on the body.
If you decide to extend your stay in one of the Clévacances gîtes, you can explore the Beaune area. About fifteen kilometres away, you'll discover the village and hillsides of Nuits-st-Georges near the city of Dijon. It is in this commune that many craftsmen have established themselves practising pottery, painting, sculpture… The unique skills of the creators will delight you. For those with a sweet tooth, come and discover the whole world of blackcurrants on a guided tour of the Cassissium in Nuits-st-Georges.
