The Lumière Festival is a not-to-be-missed international event devoted to classic cinema. Every October, it comes to life in Lyon, the birthplace of the Lumière Cinematograph, where the world of the seventh art comes together to celebrate the memory and energy of cinema through a contemporary re-reading of the works of the past: restored films, retrospectives, guests of honour, tributes, film-concerts, etc.
Every October,Lyon becomes the world capital of classic cinema thanks to the Lumière Festival, a major cultural event bringing together enthusiasts, filmmakers, actors, critics and professionals from the 7th art. From 14 to 17 October 2025, the festival returns for a new edition rich in emotion, screenings and tributes.
Born in the city of the Lumière brothers, inventors of the Cinématographe, the Festival Lumière 2025 celebrates the richness and modernity of cinematic heritage. More than 450 screenings are on offer throughout the Lyon metropolitan area, in a unique network of cinemas. Each screening is presented by emblematic figures from the world of cinema: directors, actors, critics or members of the festival team.
The festival programme includesrestored films, never-before-seen retrospectives, film-concerts, tributes to major artists of the 7th art, as well as the presence of'international guests of honour. This not-to-be-missed event offers an immersive experience at the heart of cinema's history, while paying tribute to its current and universal power.
With its international reach and strong local roots, the Lumière Festival in Lyon stands out as a global reference for all lovers of the silver screen.
